DOVER — With two weeks remaining in the regular season, four teams are vying for second place and a Week 1 bye in the playoffs. The team finishing there is guaranteed to make it to the double-elimination rounds.
Tom Vitko had 21 points to pace Bolton Construction to a 52-40 victory over RCC Construction in Game 1 of the week. He, along with Louis Halle scored 8 points each in the second half as Bolton broke away from a 23-23 halftime tie. John Succi led RCC with 15 points and Greg Palmer scored 13 as the construction crew fell to an even .500 record, 5 wins and 5 losses.
Thompson Tavern earned a hard fought 59-48 win over Civilworks New England to further tighten the standings. Three players scored in double figures for Thompson’s, with John Rademacher leading the way with 17 points. He got fine assists from Mike Moulton (16) and John Ricci (11) as they improved to 5-5. Civilworks was led by game-high scorer Gary Mulkigian’s 25 points and Jeff Barbour with 11. The loss cuts Civilworks lead to just one game for the second-place spot.
In the last game of the evening, Flynn Insurance shook off some early shooting woes and dominated River Bend Pizza (who hasn’t?), 59-31. Mike Bernier (18), Jason Conway (15), and Ben Hillyard (13) led the onslaught as Flynn became the third 5-5 team in the league. River Bend got 12 points from leading scorer Rich Palermo in the loss.
There are three more games scheduled for Wednesday night at the McConnell Center in Dover.
