DOVER — Flynn Insurance and RCC Construction emerged with victories in the first round of the Over-The-Hill Basketball playoffs. Both games were close affairs.
Kent Anson scored all 12 of his points in the second half as Flynn Insurance defeated River Bend Pizza, 42-29. Playing with just five players, River Bend trailed by just five points at the half. Both teams had trouble scoring in the second half. And with eight minutes left it was still a six-point affair. Behind Anson and Mike Bernier’s 12 points Flynn held on to move into the second round. They will face Civilworks New England. John Flynn led River Bend Pizza with 9 points in the loss.
Game two saw RCC Construction hold off Thompson Tavern in the second half and advance, 47-38. The second half was a strong one for RCC’s Barry McDonald. He had 12 points (3 hoops from deep) after the break and a game-high 16 points. The building crew ran the lead up to 15 points with just under ten minutes left. But two three- pointers from Thompson’s John Ricci and a John Rademacher hoop and it was under ten. However, it wouldn’t get closer as Matt Langis’ 11 points aided the RCC Construction effort. Rademacher’s 12 points led Thompson’s who got another 10 points from Mike Moulton. RCC will face top seed Bolton Construction in the second round.
This week’s games are Bolton Construction vs. RCC Construction in game one followed by Civilworks New England vs. Flynn Insurance in game two on Wednesday night.
