DOVER — Bolton Construction and Civilworks New England will face each other next week in the winner’s bracket final. They were victorious over RCC Construction and Flynn Insurance respectively in Round 2 of the playoffs.
It wasn’t a night for RCC Construction as they fell hard to No. 1 seed Bolton Construction, 63-31. Gary Lytle’s 17 first half points staked Bolton to a 14-point lead 28-14 at the break.
From there it just got worse for RCC. A John Succi free throw for RCC Construction made it 34-17 six minutes into the second stanza. That’s as close as they would get as practically nothing went through the rim. Bolton’s Dave Hersey hit a three pointer with 9:30 to go to make it 43-19. From there everyone got into the act for Bolton. Every member of the team scored on this night, led by Lytle’s 19 and Louis Halle chipped in with 10 more.
RCC Construction, which shot just 7 for 34 from the field in the second half was paced by Greg Palmer’s 12 points. Next week they face Flynn Construction, a 53-44 loser to Civilworks New England in Game 2 this week.
Jeff Barbour was just too much for Flynn Insurance in Game 2 on this night. He scored 21 points in the first half as Civilworks New England was up 32-22 at the break. Flynn jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead after four minutes. But in four minute span midway through half Barbour hit three shots from deep to jump start his team. His final one gave Civilworks a 17-11 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half. Mike Bernier had eight points in the half for Flynn.
In the second half Gary Mulkigian took over for Civilworks, scoring 10 points on the way to a 19-point lead, 43-24, with 9:35 to go. A late Flynn Insurance run gave their team hope. A couple of Phil Dupuis baskets for Flynn cut the lead to just 11 with 2:50 to play. But Civilworks’ Matt Stith hit a three from beyond the arc to put the lead back to 13 with just over a minute left to seal the win.
For Civilworks New England Barbour led the team with 27 points helped along by Mulkigian with 15 in the win. Jason Conway (14) and Mike Bernier (13) topped the scorebook for Flynn Insurance.
Civilworks New England and Bolton Construction play Game 1 on Wednesday night. Game 2 will be RCC Construction facing Flynn Insurance at the McConnell Center in Dover.
